How a small business outranks much bigger companies on Google
Douglas Newby is an independent real estate brokerage representing buyers and sellers of Architecturally Significant Homes in Dallas. His competition is Compass, Briggs Freeman and Allie Beth Allman, firms with hundreds of agents each. He outranks all three on many of the Google searches they share. Our strategy was a multi-domain brand: a large flagship site carrying the depth, plus narrower sites that each answer one subject. That lets the same business take several spots on a single page of results, and the narrow sites often outrank the flagship on the subject they cover, because a page about one thing beats a page about everything.

Where each company ranked
Each row is one Google search. Position #1 is on the left, so the further left a dot sits, the higher that website came up. The red dots are the Douglas Newby multi-domain brand, the other colors are the three brokerages he competes with. Drag the slider to move through the week.
Adjust content, check daily rank changes
We know what causes keyword rankings to go up or down
Rankings move for a reason. We rewrite a section, adjust the meta tags, correct the structured data that tells Google and AI what a page is about, or build a new page for a search the site was not answering. Google and the AI models usually take several days to respond, not one, so being aware of the daily change helps us better understand the updates we make.
